Visit to Alexander Devine Childrens’ Hospice Services

On a lovely sunny Monday afternoon, five members of the Missions Committee (Carol, Ken, Hazel, Gini, Veronica) drove to Snowball Hill, Maidenhead to visit the home of Alexander Devine Childrens’ Hospice Services that we have heard so much about from Anita Weare who is one of their volunteers.

It is an amazing building, light and airy , thoughtfully designed and built with love. As we were shown round, we noticed many dolphins – as toys and images, in various rooms, as apparently they were a favourite of Alexander’s who is the inspiration behind the hospice.

A particular room which touched me and the others who were visiting with me, was the ‘Hug Room’, where parents / families could go to just be and where a religious service could take place if so desired. There is also an amazing sensory room, craft room, hydrotherapy pool and spacious lounge.

Outside the building is an amazing playground adapted to suit all abilities and open all year round to those who need it. The playground is alongside, a sensory garden which has many Lego models dotted amongst the plants which the children love to experience.

We look forward to welcoming a speaker from Alexander Devine (possibly Anita) on Christ the King Sunday – 26thNovember 2023.
